Why Should You Use Automated Backup?

A backup is a precaution to be taken before a disaster strikes, not after. On servers, data loss can appear unexpectedly through disk failure, a faulty update, accidentally deleted files or attacks such as ransomware. If you do not have a recent copy at that moment, hours of work and your critical data are lost beyond recovery. With the daily automated backup service this whole process is handled on your behalf: every day, without any action from you, a current copy of your data is taken and stored. So in the event of a problem you can return to any day with at most one day of difference and continue your work exactly where you left off.

Encrypted and Offsite Storage

For a backup to be truly useful, it must be stored somewhere independent of the environment that holds the data it protects. If your backups are kept on the same disk as your server, a failure of that disk loses both your original data and your backup at the same time. That is why your backups are stored encrypted in a remote location, physically separate from your production server. Because the data is kept encrypted during both transfer and storage, it is protected against unauthorized access. This approach forms the basis of the widely accepted 3-2-1 backup rule: keeping the data on at least two different media and one copy off-site. Even if a hardware failure, fire or similar problem occurs on your server, a secure second copy of your data always remains accessible.
